Art: Film photography by Kate Walker

Kate: Some of my favorite college memories are from the hours I spent shooting and developing film photos. NNU has a great photo lab and darkroom, not to mention a wonderful photography professor. I remember taking my first role of film into the loading room to prep it for development. Right before I wound my film onto a metal spool (used to keep the film from touching itself and ruining exposures during development), it slipped out of my hands and I had to grope around on the floor for about a minute to find it again. Working in complete darkness takes some getting used to!

Here are a few of the photos I submitted for various class assignments.

Art: Wine Journal series by Kate Walker

Kate: I've started working on some ideas for wine journals. I love thinking through the endless ways to reflect the rich experience and history of wine through fine art. Wine has so much aesthetic inspiration: Vineyards--each subtly unique vine, leaf, and grape--barrels, bottles, deep reds and golden whites....

Here are a few pictures of what I've come up with thus far. For these three designs I used red and white oak wood, stain and finish, pyrography, gold leaf, and mixed media paper. Each page has room to record the type of wine, the vineyard it came from, the year, and the its overall rating. There are also two sections for detailed notes and the menu the wine was served with.

Christopher and I have recently started using the "Vino" journal.

Enjoy! Feedback welcome.

Kauai, Hawaii by Chris Walker

ChrisWe took most of our photos on Fuji Velvia slide film (I mean, why not?), and I haven't had a chance to develop those yet. In the meantime, here are a few digital shots of the trip.
